Cleveland Browns Betting Odds Improve After Deshaun Watson Suspension Announcement

The Deshaun Watson suspension announcement was finally handed down Monday morning. Sue L. Robinson, a retired federal court judge who oversaw the disciplinary hearings, recommended a six-game suspension for Watson. The NFL has three days to appeal the decision, but sportsbooks have wasted no time adjusting the Cleveland Browns’ betting odds, including their odds for the 2023 Super Bowl

Browns Super Bowl Odds Shift Favorably

The Cleveland Browns’ Super Bowl 57 odds have been on a rollercoaster all offseason. When DraftKings Sportsbook initially opened 2022-2023 NFL Super Bowl Odds, the Browns were listed at +3500 along with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Seattle Seahawks. Right after the Watson trade was announced, those odds shortened all the way to +1700.

Here is how Cleveland’s Super Bowl 2023 odds have changed across several sports betting apps from when Watson’s disciplinary hearings started until today when the suspension was announced.

Caesars is the only sportsbook to not adjust the team’s odds following the suspension news, but it also was offering the shortest odds before the suspension came down.

Cleveland’s AFC North Odds

The AFC North will be one of the most competitive divisions in all of football. The Bengals are the reigning AFC Champions, the Ravens will have a healthy QB Lamar Jackson alongside significant roster improvements, and while the Steelers’ quarterback situation is less than ideal, they still have a competitive roster overall.

Immediately following Cleveland’s acquisition of Watson, BetMGM listed the Browns as the favorite to win the AFC North in April at +160 with the Ravens trailing at +210.

Similar to the Browns’ Super Bowl 57 odds, The Browns saw their division odds improve following Watson’s six-game suspension announcement.

Browns’ 2022 Season Win Total

While you could bet on the other futures above throughout the offseason, the Browns’ 2022 season win total was taken off most sportsbooks across the US. Following the suspension report, however, the majority of online sportsbooks have set the Browns’ win total at 9.5.

For those feeling optimistic about the 2022-2023 season, FanDuel offers the best price on over 9.5 wins at +125. If you want to put action on the under, DraftKings and BetMGM have the best odds at -125.

Cleveland’s First Six Games

Jacoby Brissett has already been named the starter while Watson is serving his suspension and will be under center for the first six games of the season. After Cleveland opens the season on the road against the Carolina Panthers, they have back-to-back home games with the New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers. Following a trip to Atlanta to play the Falcons, the Brissett-led Browns will travel back to FirstEnergy Stadium for two more home games against the Los Angeles Chargers and New England Patriots.

This six-game stretch sets up as nicely as Browns fans could hope. Cleveland is currently favored in five of its first six games and listed as three-point underdogs to the Los Angeles Chargers, per DraftKings Sportsbook. During this stretch, Watson will only be out for one divisional game — Week 3 against the Steelers.
