The Bengals enter 2022 with expectations much higher than in recent years. After a Super Bowl run that even the most staunch supporters couldn’t have seen coming, most sportsbooks have the Cincinnati Bengals’ 2022 season win total at 9.5.
The great news for Ohio sports bettors is that Ohio online sports betting will launch statewide on Jan. 1, 2023. That’s just in time for the Bengals’ Monday Night game against the Buffalo Bills in Week 16 of the regular season.
The Bengals made three key additions to their offensive line during free agency in Alex Cappa, La’el Collins, and Ted Karras. Outside of defensive lineman Larry Ogunjobi, there were no major free agent losses. Additionally, the franchise received solid NFL Draft grades from notable media members.
What gives, then? Why are oddsmakers setting the Bengals’ 2022 season win total at 9.5 despite the overwhelmingly positive offseason for the Bengals? Let’s take a look at betting the Cincinnati Bengals’ win total for 2022.

Bengals 2022 Outlook
While not perfect data points by any means, we can still glean some information by looking at what Cincinnati’s 2022-2023 opponents did last year and how sportsbooks are projecting them this year.
The Bengals’ opponents’ combined win percentage from last season came in at .536, which gives Cincinnati the third-most difficult 2022-2023 schedule according to that singular data point. Looking ahead to this season, Sharp Football Analysis has the Who Deys with the seventh-toughest schedule according to projected win totals.
The AFC North is one of the most complete divisions in all of football. If not for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback questions, this would by far be the toughest division across the NFL. The Browns won the QB Deshaun Watson sweepstakes and the Ravens are in a prime bounce-back spot with QB Lamar Jackson healthy and key additions to their offensive line and across their defense.
Outside of the division, four matchups loom large when projecting the Bengals’ 2022-2023 season win total — home games against the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs and away tilts with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Dallas Cowboys.
Where does 2022 rank?: Five best offseasons in Bengals history
Despite the difficult schedule ahead for the Cincinnati Bengals, I like taking the over 9.5 for the reigning AFC Champions. Starting with the division, I don’t think we can project sweeps in either direction, so let’s start with three wins there.
Then we have five games where the Bengals could (should?) get wins against Atlanta, Carolina, New York Jets, Miami, and Tennessee. Let’s say 4-1 to be on the safe side.
There are two very winnable away games against New England and New Orleans. Let’s split those as well.
Now we’re down to the four marquee matchups I touched on earlier. Again, let’s say those games are split.
Add that up and the Cincinnati Bengals are sitting at 10 wins. With an incredibly talented offense, key upgrades to the offensive line, and a solid defense, the Bengals are in line for another successful season.
