Cincinnati Reds to Open BetMGM Retail Sportsbook at Great American Ballpark

With legal online sports betting set to debut in Ohio on Jan. 1, 2023, the Cincinnati Reds have made a move aligned with that development by naming BetMGM Sportsbook as one of their official sports betting partners.

As part of the partnership, BetMGM will open a retail sportsbook at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. The team has revealed that the BetMGM-branded sportsbook will be in the spot previously occupied by the Machine Room restaurant. Customers will only be able to access the retail sportsbook through doors from outside the ticketed area of the ballpark.

It’s planned to be ready by Opening Day in 2023, making it the second BetMGM retail sports betting facility at an MLB park. The gaming operator has a similar operation in Washington D.C., at National Park.

More Details of the Reds-BetMGM Partnership

BetMGM will have a suite and club seats at Great America Ball Park, as well as signage in the stadium. The deal allows BetMGM to promote with the Reds and also offer exclusive on-site VIP experiences for its customers.

“BetMGM is renowned for their expertise in entertainment and sports gaming, and we believe their brand best fits our high customer standards and will also help draw visitors to our city,” Reds Chief Financial Officer Doug Healy said.

BetMGM has also applied for a Type-B Sports Gaming Proprietor partnership in Ohio through the Reds. That license would allow BetMGM to offer mobile sports betting via its BetMGM Sportsbook app. The company also intends to operate a retail sportsbook at its MGM Northfield Park racino located in Northfield, Ohio.

BetMGM is expected to be able to register customers in Ohio soon, ahead of the launch on the first day of 2023. In other states, BetMGM has offered sign-up bonuses for those who register early, typically featuring free bets or deposit matches.

Ohio will mark the 17th state where BetMGM Sportsbook is available, joining Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

In 2018, BetMGM became the first official sports betting partner of Major League Baseball. It has renewed that relationship twice and forged partnerships with seven MLB teams, as well as several other professional teams.

Betting on the Reds in 2023

Visitors to Great American Ball Park will have a new experience next season. Not only will BetMGM have its retail sportsbook located at the ballpark, but fans will be able to legally wager on the Reds, MLB, and other sports right from their seats. BetMGM and other sports betting apps will be available by the time the 2023 season starts. Fans can place live bets on the action happening on the field.

Unfortunately, the Reds will probably be just as mediocre next year as they were in 2022. The team lost 100 games and finished tied for last in the NL Central. The Reds won 21 fewer games than in 2021, and haven’t won a playoff game since 2012. The last postseason series win for the franchise came way back in 1995. The once proud franchise is one of the most listless in the sport. It’s employed 15 managers in the 32 years since its last World Series title.

Sports bettors in Ohio will have it easy. They can register for online betting or wager in retail sportsbook locations once the market launches in 2023. By law, you must be at least 21 years of age to bet legally on sports in the state. Sports betting operators will require you to verify your identity and provide a payment/withdrawal source. Sportsbooks are free to download and available for iOS and Android devices.
