What Will the Gamewise Sports Betting App Bring to Ohio?

More than 20 sportsbooks have applied for a sports betting license to operate in Ohio, which opens its market on Jan. 1, 2023. Included in that group is Gamewise, which apparently would operate a sports betting app under its Betly brand.

The Gamewise Sports Betting App, named Betly, is a joint venture between GAMING1 and Delaware North. It is operational in two states Arkansas and West Virginia with a Tennessee debut coming soon.

On the first day of 2023, Ohio will bring the number of states that have legal sports betting to 31. The Buckeye State would be the largest state, by population, to enter the legal sports betting market since New York, which came online in January 2022.

Will Betly Sportsbook be Available in Ohio?

In 2020, Delaware North and International Game Technology (IGT) entered an agreement through which IGT provides the kiosks and sportsbook technology for a sports betting app branded as Betly.

Betly is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play for Android devices. The mobile app is not as well-known as DraftKings and FanDuel, or other industry leaders like BetMGM and Caesars Sportsbook, but it has been received well in the two states where it’s operational.

Both Delaware North and Gaming1 (a subsidiary of IGT) have international connections. Delaware North operates casinos and gaming venues in Australia as well as the United States. IGT is a Belgian-based gaming and sports betting corporation. GAMING1 was created to serve as the facilitator of gaming solutions in North America.

In Ohio, bettors will be able to place sports wagers via retail sportsbooks as well as online through mobile sportsbook apps. Under Ohio law, the sports betting operators gain market access through a partnership with a licensed organization established in the state. But the information supplied by OCCC does not list a Proprietor Partner. You can see a full list of applicants for an Ohio license here at Ohio Sharp.
