Ohio Sports Betting Update: Five More Online Sportsbooks Approved

On Thursday, Nov. 3, the Ohio Casino Control Commission approved five more Ohio online sportsbooks and six more retail sportsbooks. 

Approvals have been filing in as Ohio inches closer to the universal start date of Jan. 1, at midnight.

The new mobile sportsbooks approved were BetMGM, DraftKings, Hard Rock Digital, Tipico Ohio, and BetRivers. As required by law, all five operators have partners in the state.

  • Crew SC Stadium Company (Tipico Ohio)
  • Hollywood Gaming Dayton Raceway (BetRivers)

The six new retail sportsbooks approved are:

  • MGM Northfield Park (BetMGM)
  • Cincinnati Reds (BetMGM)
  • Crew SC Stadium Company (Tipico)
  • Pro Football Hall of Fame Village (BetRivers)
  • Cedar Down OTB (BetMGM)
  • Hard Rock Casino Cincinnati (Hard Rock Digital)

According to the Ohio sports betting law, the Ohio Casino Control Commission can authorize up to 25 Type-A licenses. Those licenses are meant for casinos and professional sports venues. 

The six new approved retail sportsbooks bring the total to 15. Some other notable retail sportsbook operators to have previously been approved are Betfred, which is partnered with the Cincinnati Bengals, and Bet365, which has partnered with the Cleveland Guardians. 

Every applicant that has been approved had to submit compliance documents by Nov. 2. It includes facility plans, responsible gaming protocols, house rules, and geolocation procedures. These compliance documents must be approved before a sportsbook can launch.  Then every approved licensee has until Dec. 2 to have all of their equipment ready for verification.

In addition to the retail and mobile sportsbooks approved the OCCC also approved more sports betting kiosk hosts bringing that approved total to 880 so far. 

Other Online Sportsbooks That Have Been Approved

So far there have been 12 mobile sportsbooks approved in Ohio. In addition to the newest approvals the other sportsbooks to have been approved are: 

The expectation is that there will be even more approvals in the near future as the launch date gets closer. Ohio has a universal launch date but it isn’t the deadline for operators to gain approval, more sportsbooks could be approved after the Jan. 1 launch. 

Ohio Sports Betting Launch Bonuses

Sports bettors in Ohio will have plenty of sportsbooks to choose from to bet on their favorite teams. In Ohio, sports bettors will be able to place bets on college teams in the area meaning Ohio State fans can place bets on their Buckeyes.
